Mise Éire
Midas Productions

Terry Purcell, Pól Ó Duibhir, Alan Dukes

Ar ais ar scoil arís tar éis leathchéad bliain le breathnú ar an scannán Mise Éire don dara huair. Bhfuil an scannán chomh maith is a mheasamar na blianta fada ó shoin?

Bhfuil tuiscint níos fearr againn anois ar chúrsaí an tsaoil agus an mbaineann seo de chumhacht an scannáin? Bhfuil an scannán ró rómánsúil, ró náisiúnach, na pictiúrí ró statach do lucht féachana an lae inniu, spriod an cheoil ídithe ag an rock is an rap nua aimseardha?

Cad faoi an gáire? An amhlaidh go bhfuil Éirí Amach na Cásca anois ina scigmhagadh ag iarscoláirí na mBráithre Críostaí?

So, tar éis an scannán a fheiscint don dara huair anois agus an oireadh sin ama imithe thart, céard a mheasainn sibh?

Níor chaill sé riamh é, dar liom féin. Tá an scannán chomh fíor agus chomh cumhachtach is abhí riamh. Moladh mór é seo leis an fhoireann a chruthaigh ag an am é. Tá seo fíor idir íomhánna, ceol agus tráchtaireacht. Éacht é a mhaireann. Mar adúirt Alan ar an ócáid, is cur síos é ar stair a tharla. Fiú má thagann forbairt ar dhearca an lucht féachana le himeacht aimsire, maireann na fíricí. Tharla siad.

Is píosa staire é an scannán seo ann féin.

The above rescreening of Mise Éire arose because Midas Productions are making a programme to celebrate the film's original launch in 1960. My school class was brought en masse to view the original screening and the programme makers thought some of us would be good subjects for illustrating the passage of time (and how right they were, look at the photos).

The recording took place in all that is now left of Coláiste Mhuire on Parnell Square. The original building, on the north side of the square, is now abandoned and in a shameful state of decay, despite the lick of paint for Her Majesty. But there is still a smaller Gaelscoil on the east side of the square, and it is into the "tiny" benches of this premises that we squeezed ourselves to again watch this memorable epic.

Update 12 Feb 2012: The programme was originally expected to be screened on TG4 before Christmas 2011 but is now expected during 2012. There was a preview screening in the IFI on 12 February 2012. It turned out to be a fantastic programme.

Update 28 Dec 2012: How time flies. The programme is now due for transmission this evening at 8.30pm on TG4.
