Stepping Stones 1

There was no river wall in them thar days - that's partly why the damn thing flooded. There was just a bank on the other side. And the local lads and lasses had built stepping stones to cross the river. These were made of rocks and sods and needed constant maintenance. Access to the other side of the river was important for a number of reasons, not least of which was access to the No. 14 bus at Dartry Dye Works. This was an alternative to the No. 15 at the top of Orwell Road, or the infrequent, and somewhat bumpier, 47a from the top of the Gardens.
