O'Leary's Pub

Established by Ma O'Leary in 1995, the pub is now run by her son Adrian Cuddy. It has a good atmosphere, with an established local clientèle.

My main contact with the pub was for two World Cup matches. The first was when Germany sent England (including a ridiculously waistcoated Beckam) home to the motherland. Adrian's sympathies were no secret.

About three quarters of the customers were rooting for Germany, with a minority of Dutch, who could not bring themselves to support their old foes, rooting for England.

Always sensitive to his customers, Adrian had a change of Jersey for the Netherlands vs. Slovakia match. Mind you, it was clear that this was also where his real sympathies lay.

This match played to an extatic audience.

But, no matter where you go, you will always find the one insensitive idiot who blocks everyone else's view as he struts his support in the middle of the aisle.
