The Village has undergone significant tarting up (sorry, development) in recent times with the support of the European Union, the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, and the County Council. The obelisk marks the spot. I'm not clear if it is intended to evoke the Obelisk at the top of Killiney Hill, erected by John Malpas in 1742 as a form of relief work.
