Thomas O'Brien/Kate Condron
P�l's Granduncle in law once removed!


This marriage cert gave me the following information :

• Thomas O'Brien (Christopher Burgess's father-in-law) married Kate Condron. The RIC record had not given the wife's name, only the date of marriage.
• His father's name was Martin, he was a farmer and was still living at that time. He would most likely have farmed in Galway/Mayo where Thomas was recruited.
• Her father's name was Lawrence, he had been a farmer, probably in Sallins, but was deceased.
• The couple and the witnesses were all illiterate. This is very strange. How could a man, already seven years in the force be illiterate. It has been suggested to me that he might have sustained an injury which made him unable to write but there is no such note in his record. The curate who performed the ceremony has testified to the authenticity of the marks.
