Sarah Mortimer Birth Sarah Mortimer was born in Mount Temple Road in 1906. Career She started in Christy Monaghan's Grocery business, 433a SCR,in Rialto village,where she kept the books. In time this premises became Murphy's [Pub/Off Licence] and was recently on the market. She subsequently became a civil servant in the Department of Social Welfare (Labour Exchange) in Beresford Place. Marriage She married Luke Dwyer in 1942 and, for about 7 years, ran the Gem (shop) in Howth. She had two children, Paul and Martina, while in Howth. The family subsequently moved to Dollymount Park and shortly afterwards to Orwell Gardens where they stayed with her mother, Sarah Burgess (m. Mortimer) from 1950 to 1954. In 1954 they moved to Ballybrack, Co. Dublin, where she ran the CNC shop until around 1970. Death She continued living in Ballybrack, until 1987 when she was very ill and went to stay with her daughter, Martina, in Bray, Co. Wicklow, where she died in October of that year. |
