What has been done so far
On the main page, you can see the magnificent job that has been done so far on restoring the Tower itself, the battery area and glacis, and the Gunner's Cottage and Store Room [Coach House].
This applies not only to the visible exterior, but also to the interiors, and the "fittings", including the functioning cannon on the deck.
What remains to be done
The next step is to restore the Gunpowder Store beside the Gunner's Cottage. The site will then be practically complete in terms of its functions during its active period (1804-1880).
But to truly complete this wonderful piece of restoration, the site needs to be seen in its proper context. It is one of a complex of structures designed to protect Dublin Bay from a French seaborne invasion. These structures consisted of Towers and Batteries and stretched from Bray to Balbriggan.
This particular tower dominated the seaward and landward defences of Killiney Bay.
The only way to properly illustrate this context would be through an interpretive centre located onsite. And this is in mind for Phase 3.
How you can help
There are a number of ways you can help this worthy project.
One is obviously to make a donation to the likely substantial costs of phases 2 and 3. If this is your preferred option you can click on the donate button in the right hand column and channel a donation through Paypal.
There are other ways you might be able to contribute. For example, if you have in your possession, or know where they can be obtained, physical objects relevant to the military history of the place and period.
Or, you may be aware of relevant documentary or photographic sources.
In these last two cases, you might email Niall at the link in the right hand column.
Thank you
Thank you very much for your interest in the project. If you have not already been on site, Niall will be only too happy to show you around (individuals or parties). You should note that the site is also available as a location of various functions or events.
