It's quite clear that the narrow spiral staircase in the wall of the tower is just about wide enough for a person to go up it. So how is all the necessary equipment and even the two and a half ton cannon got to the crown of the tower. Well, there's more than a spiral staircase in them there walls. Cavity passages in the wall and a set of block and tackle do the trick as illustrated below.

Cannon enters cavity in wall at ground level (1), raised to first floor level (2), swung to opposite side of tower at first floor level (3), raised to level of crown in wall cavity (4), exit to crown (5).

Raised to 1st floor level with block and tackle through cavity in wall (2)

Exits into 1st floor level through trapdoor.

Again with block and tackle suspended from the middle of the first floor roof, cannon is swung to opposite side of tower (3).
