Hayes Cross: Commemorates the death in 1908 of Dr. Marie Hayes, who went to India as a missionary and doctor but died after two years. The people to whom she ministered set up a fund to erect this memorial in her home village. Preparations are underway for a centenary celebration early next year. Old Church: There is said to have been a church on this site for more than a millennium, since the time of St. Assam. The present structure was built in 1609 (C of I) and rebuilt in 1712. It was dismantled in 1920 with only the gable left standing. |
