Gardens from Top
The Gardens literally dropped down in a series of cul de sacs from Orwell Road Bridge to just above the level of the river on a good day. Half way down the main road was a large concrete and tarmac circle where we used to play rounders, fall and scrape our knees, and be spied on in this valley of the squinting windows. That circle is now a lush jungle which dominates the lower end of the Gardens. While it may provide a welcome break of greenery in what was a relatively bare environment, it has the look of the wilderness about it and you are waiting for God knows what sort of strange creature to come roaring out.
