Stuart Syvret's Banned Posts
A selection

The posts linked below are but six of the thirty two that the Jersey authorities requested Google to take down. Google in turn asked Stuart to take them down which he refused to do. So Google have now taken his entire blog down.

He hopes to have it up and running from another host soon but meanwhile these are a selection from the above mentioned posts for you to ponder.

Each of the posts has up to the first 200 comments only. This is for technical reasons. You will see from the bottom of the comments that one post had around 1,600 comments, and that was during the period when Stuart was in political exile in London.

It should not be forgotten that Stuart spent two months in jail for refusing to take down the specified thirty two posts. Technically he was locked up for contempt of court, which meant failing to obey a court order and not turning up for the court hearing.

The original case was brought under a perverse piece of data protection legislation, the implementation of which was a contradiction in terms. However, it provided a piece of judge-signed paper which carried the day with Google/Blogger, who had consistently up to then refused to take any action against Stuart, despite requests from the Jersey Data Protection Commissioner dating back to 2008. That was at the time when Stuart was exposing the illegal suspension of the Jersey Police Chief, Graham Power, QPM, and predated all the posts which were listed in the recent court judgement. That judgement is now clearly shown up as only the latest shot in the authorities' sustained campaign against the blog.

If the above posts have whetted your appetite for Jersey politics, you might like to read and hear Stuart himself give his take on the latest developments in this guest post and this interview.

If you are still with us and are appoplexing over who the four shady types are who took the court case under the aegis of Emma Martins, you might like to see Ian Evans's virtuoso performance on the matter. Ian does not mince his words, but he certainly minces everything else.

If you find any of this confusing, you might like to gen up on the broader Jersey background.
